As such, another proposed mechanism for the decrease in cardiac arrest rates associated with RRTs is increased use of palliative care services and DNAR orders for patients who are dying and for whom resuscitation attempts are likely to be futile or inconsistent with their goals of care. Once a patient has a cardiac arrest, institution of a DNAR order to prevent further resuscitation attempts is frequently entertained. However, many of these patients may have been appropriate for consideration of such an order before the arrest, and failure to properly consider it could result in an unwanted aggressive end to life and a waste of considerable resources. Seemed odd but I let that go as a lack of info shared with the appointment clerks. 5 weeks pass and I had spaced the appt. remembering about 25 mins before the appt I called and informed them I might be 15 mins late. I was curtly told that I will be automatically cancelled at 20 mins late and charged a $50 fee for a missed appt. I asked if they send appt reminders as I had to wait 5 weeks to get the appt and she said yes they usually send a letter and a reminder call...I had received neither. At this point I had made the decision to stop the process of becoming a patient. There were too many signs of problems for me to continue. Two days later I received a curt letter telling me if I missed 3 appts during a 12 month cycle of a year I would be terminated as a patient.(fair enough).Interesting they were Johnny on the spot to admonish but not contact a new patient prior with their policy of sending a welcome letter and phone call reminder.
