In a cohort of HIV-infected patients taking ART in southwestern Uganda, GPS-based measures of transportation distance were highly correlated with each other and associated with late presentation to HIV clinic appointments. To increase physician knowledge of new developments in palliation and their level of clinical competence in end-of-life care, the Institute for Ethics at the American Medical Association, with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, embarked on the Education for Physicians on End-of-life Care (EPEC) Project.
