We ended up booking the specialist appointment in 2 days, so I called back to ask about the removal of the IV fluid port, and also for additional pain medication because he was clearly in a lot of pain again. The receptionist agreed to remove the IV fluid port. However, the shocking part was, the receptionist simply insisted that another examination has to be done in order to prescribe additional pain medications, as there was another veterinarian onsite who has not seen the cat. I insisted that I have all of his medical history, and all he needs is a bit more pain medication - which should have been prescribed in the first place, as it is unlikely to get a specialist appointment immediately. Even with the cat present with full medical history, we were turned down and now he has to be in pain all night because of that. It is simply disgusting that even with an $1,000 vet bill (examination, X-ray, blood test and boarding), the clinic refused to prescribe the additional pain medication just so they can charge another $160 for the examination.
