In hemoglobin SS disease, increased AER (micro- and macroalbuminuria) occurred in 68% of adult patients, and macroalbuminuria occurred in 26%. In other sickling disorders, increased AER occurs in 32% of adults, and macroalbuminuria occurs in 10%.
