The event was created as a way to showcase the outstanding culinary skills of our region's medical communities. Hospitals and nursing homes around the region come together and compete for the title of top chef.The first competition was held in 2009 and started with seven participants and around 200 guests. Over the next few years the event grew in both popularity and participation we have now grown to four events per yearin four separate counties across the State of Indiana. Over 45 facilitiesparticipant with attendance exceeding 3000.Beginning in 2013, Taste of Care expanded into the fundraising arena and developed into a non-profit entity. The proceeds raised from each event benefit local organizations in the community. Organizations such as Honor Flight Chicago, Wounded Warrior Projectand the Porter County Triad have been benefactors of the events. In 2013 the Taste of Care Board was formed to oversee the different aspects of the events and guide Taste into the future. Shortly after the formation of the board, Taste of Care was developed into a non-profit organization under the umbrella of the Legacy Foundation.
